Animation for Kids 2014
The best animation is a colourful, oddball kind of vehicle capable of the most unlikely journeys. There are plenty of animators who see kids less as an audience and more as a band of fellow travellers on these expeditions of the imagination. The very best of these excursions will encounter worlds that blend the fantastical, the apparently impossible and the audaciously improbable with clever animals, magical ideas, pure fun and just maybe a couple of slightly rude bits. Responding to the vivid imaginations of children is what makes putting these two programmes together such an inspiring challenge for us. If we got it right, there is likely to be laughing, finger pointing, silent ‘wow’ moments and even a few moments of thoughtful contemplation – followed by more laughing, finger pointing and noisy ‘wow’ moments. — Malcolm Turner
